El Lunes - 6/2

Today was the last day of our four day weekend from El Sol but today was also the first day of our two weeks at UNIFE (la Universidad Femenina de Sagrada Corazon).  We didn't have to be at Calle de Las Pizzas until 1:30 so I woke up early and went surfing.  I went at around 10 AM, surfed until 12:30, got out, made my first over-priced purchase of the trip (a 14 sol latte that took 10 minutes to make from a coffee shop), grabbed lunch and then met the rest of the group at the bus.  Our first day at UNIFE was certainly an experience.

They had set up a beautiful opening ceremony for us, introducing us to the campus and to the university.  We were on the second floor of a building, with windows all around looking out onto their beautiful campus.  There were dancing performances by the university's dancing groups, one of the students sang two songs (one traditional Peruvian song and then I'll Be There by Michael Jackson [not sure why she chose to sing that but it sure was good]).    What UNIFE didn't plan out well about the day was that there was a massively loud parade circling the streets surrounding that specific building for the entirety of the opening ceremony.  Luckily, it was so ridiculous that most of us were able to find the humor in it.  After the opening ceremony we formed groups of one Northeastern student and four UNIFE students.  I was in a group with Lucero, Johannya, Selene, and Kimberly all from UNIFE and we had a blast just hanging out and talking in Spanish.  That's all for today though.. I'm excited to go back to UNIFE tomorrow!
