This weekend was a blast, and now... I'm pooped. Saturday we went to el centro de Lima to visit the Governor's Palace (where the President lives), two BEAUTIFUL cathedrals (one right on Plaza mayor, and one a few blocks away), and the house of a Spanish conquistador that is still owned by his descendants. The first thing we did was go to the President's house but when we got there, we were told we couldn't enter unless we had pants. About 10 of us were wearing shorts and despite Monica's attempts to convince them to let us in, they wouldn't budge. So, we all went to a shop nearby, the only one open at nine in the morning, and everybody as wearing shorts bought the only pants they had - Incan style pants that looked like pajama pants. It was a funny sight a bunch of gringos walking around historical Lima all wearing the same pants. In one of the churches we got a tour of the catacombs, which was crazy. There were just piles and piles and piles of human bones from way back when. It was creepy as all hell seeing piles of femur bones and human skulls in organized piles.
Today we went to Lunahuana, which is about a three hour drive each direction from Lima. We left at 7 AM and I got back home at 10:30. In Lunahuana, we took a tour of a vinery, took a tour of a haunted house, took a tour of a honey-ery (place where they make honey?) which included delicious taste tests, went whitewater rafting, and went ATV'ing. ATV'ing was by far my favorite. I've never gone before but it was so much fun.
