Today was our first day back at El Sol after that wonderful four day weekend. We have a new conversation and culture teacher for the remaining two weeks of school and she's actually the woman who called all of us to do our placement tests before we came. Her name is Rosa and she's really cool, so we have an equally as cool teacher as Martin was. After El Sol we grabbed lunch at this new place where I got a sandwich with chicken, potato, lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, and ahí (the typical hot sauce of Peru)... It was DELICIOUS.
At UNIFE today we watched a classic Peruvian comedy movie called Asu Mare. I understood only about 20% of the dialogue, as they spoke really fast, but through the facial expressions, actions, and gestures of the actors I was able to pretty much get the whole story of the movie. It was about a boy who grows up under the care of a mother who, before her son was born, went to a fortune teller who told her that her son would be famous one day. During the boy's whole life, every hobby he gets into his mother thinks that that's what's going to make him famous and she goes all out with it. Finally, he ends up becoming a comedian, and the whole movie is narrated by one of his comedy routines as an adult (the movie is mostly flashbacks with a few scenes from his comedy routine). I really enjoyed the movie, despite it being difficult to understand at times, and afterwards we talked with our language partners about the movie and cleared up anything we didn't get.
